News
- Thank you for joining your neighbors and the WCA Board of Directors for the National Night-Out celebration Tuesday August 3 2010!
- Please thank the following Woodlake residents for volunteering their time and labor to improve our community:
- Patti Malloy for National Night Out 2010 planning and preparation.
- Courtney Peterson [7391 HLC] for maintaining the decorative landscaping and flower bed surrounding the Woodlake sign at the HLC entrance to Woodlake.
- Ernie Owens [7382 HLC] for repainting the parking ticks on HLC.
- Bob Shilke [7475 HLC] and Ernie Owens [7382 HLC] for braving the July sun to repaint every Woodlake fire-lane.
Comcast's cables are resurfacing throughout our community. Please inform Comcast's local office supervisor (410-461-1156, Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:30pm, Saturday 10:00am-3:00pm) if you see cables protruding from the ground on/around your property and common-spaces, and request a work-order be created to re-bury the cables.
- Parking is now prohibited along the section of Cradlerock Way between Hickory Log Circle and Mossy Brink Court. Many thanks to the WCA Board and other residents who repeatedly notified the county police, executive officials, and legislative representatives of the danger presented by the commercial entity which displayed the blatant disregard for our community's safety by irresponsibly blocking safe egress to Cradlerock by parking its vans along the (now) no-parking area. Sadly, the commercial entity is now parking its vans along the section of Cradlerock Way between Mossy Brink Court and Kerry Hill Court - so the danger remains for our neighbors on Mossy Brink Court. Please remain diligent and continue photographing the problem and requesting our government's positive intervention so drivers exiting Mossy Brink Court onto Cradlerock Way can once again do so safely.
Notes
- Unlicensed rental properties are appearing in our community. To determine whether any townhome is a licensed rental, and/or to report violations, please contact the Howard County Department of Inspections, Licenses, and Permits. The staff is friendly and responsive.
- Illegally parked vehicles are appearing in our community. The Howard County Police non-emergency response number is 410-333-2200. The following extracts from the Howard County Code may be useful to residents affected by violators:
- Sec. 21.221(14) - an individual may not stop, stand, or park a vehicle on the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street. The police department may impound a vehicle for a violation.
- Sec. 21.222(7) - an individual may not park a vehicle outside of any lines painted on a roadway or public parking area designating a parking space
- Sec. 21.222(8) - an individual may not park a vehicle on a highway or public parking area for more than 18 consecutive hours in a nonoperable, unregistered, untagged or disabled condition. The police department may impound a vehicle for a violation.

Document Formats
WCA documents are posted to this site in non-proprietary and open international formats, including HTML and OpenDocument. The files can be viewed using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) such as the OpenOffice office productivity suite.
Several Woodlake residents reported Microsoft's Vista operating system refuses to allow an OpenDocument file-name extension (.odt, .ods, etc.) association with an OpenDocument file viewer - resulting in typically-Windows confusing behavior such as the user being presented with the unzipped OpenDocument archive rather than the encapsulated document body when the user attempts to view an OpenDocument file. A work-around is to download/save the OpenDocument file of interest to your computer, launch the OpenDocument viewer of your preference, and open the saved file from within the OpenDocument viewer. Another work around is to switch to an operating system/environment that is not intentionally crippled by the vendor, such as Ubuntu or one of the many other free, powerful, and stable Linux distributions.
